One Foot in Front of the Other

Wednesday, November 11 – Day 61

I headed out the door slightly after 8, but the restaurant wasn’t open, so no breakfast again. In 4k, though, a bar was open so I stopped and it’s a good thing I did. She made me an omelette sandwich that was absolutely delicious, and big, for 3.50. Best breakfast ever.

Sean was there. He’s an older Korean gentleman whom I met at the place two nights ago. He walks really fast, then takes lots of breaks, so I ran into him a lot during the day.

It was another beautiful morning. I’m so glad I had the rain on the meseta and the nice weather in Galicia. Galicia is usually where it rains a lot.

I wasn’t feeling great today, but I kept putting one foot in front of the other, which is pretty much all you have to do on the camino.

I passed through a lot of small towns again. In a way, it’s kind of odd that the closer you get to Santiago the harder it is to find things open in the off season. I think, though, that it’s because the towns are so small. For other, bigger towns, there are other customers to be open for all year round, but in these small towns, they get so little traffic in the off season that they can’t stay open all year. At least, that’s my assumption.

I stopped in Palas do Rei for some OJ and cake. It was too early for lunch.

In a small town after that, I met a raspberry lady! I bought some for 1.50 E.

When I got into Melide, I saw “Sue” sitting at a table in front of a pizza place, and she offered some to me. It’s the best pizza I’ve had so far in Spain. Very good! I might go back there for dinner, because dinner at this hotel doesn’t start until 8. I have a big day tomorrow, so I might want to get an earlier start.

She said she didn’t want to stay in town, so she has to walk another 12k. It’s going to be a very long day for her. I’m tired, so I want to stop.

My room was only 20E.  Prices do go down, after Nov 1, being the off season.  I certainly don’t mind.

I did end up going back to that place for pizza.  Unfortunately my hotel is on the complete opposite side of town, so it was a good 1k there and 1k back.  It was worth it, though.  I went to bed with a happy tummy.

And I got another blister today.

  1. Hooray for non-rainy days!

Another blister! Ack! That’s funny that you’re only getting them right at the end like this. What is it–socks wearing thin? Piggies giving in and crying uncle?

Somehow I am not surprised that the Korean guy walks really fast.
